"The Day That Never Comes" es la cuarta canción del disco Death Magnetic de la banda estadounidense de Thrash metal Metallica. También es su cuadragésimo single.

Esta canción es la balada de Death Magnetic; por su música y estructura recuerda a canciones anteriores como Fade to Black, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), One de los anteriores álbumes de la banda: Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All. Casualmente también son la cuarta pista de su respectivo album.

El vídeo musical para la canción fue filmado en el desierto de las afueras de Los Ángeles, California el 31 de julio de 2008, dirigida por el cineasta danés Thomas Vinterberg. Se estrenó en la página oficial de la banda en la medianoche del 1 de septiembre de 2008.

El 4 de agosto de 2008, en una entrevista a MTV, la banda dijo que la letra de la canción trata sobre el resentimiento y el perdón. El baterista de la banda, Lars Ulrich afirmó que la canción fue inspirada en una relación de Padre-Hijo. En esa misma entrevista James Hetfield define la letra como vaga y poderosa, que puede tener variadas interpretaciones.

La canción debutó en los Bilboard´s Hot 100 en el puesto número 31.

"The Day That Never Comes" is the fourth song on the album Death Magnetic American band Metallica thrash metal. It is also forty single.

This song is the ballad of Death Magnetic, for his music and structure reminiscent of earlier songs like Fade to Black, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), One of the band's previous albums: Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ... And Justice for All. Coincidentally they are also the fourth track of their respective album.

The music video for the song was filmed in the desert outside Los Angeles, California on July 31, 2008, directed by Danish filmmaker Thomas Vinterberg. It premiered on the official website of the band at midnight on September 1, 2008.

On August 4, 2008, in an interview with MTV, the band said that the lyrics of the song is about the resentment and forgiveness. The band's drummer, Lars Ulrich said the song was inspired by a Father-Son relationship. In that same interview James Hetfield defines the letter as vague and powerful, which can have various interpretations.

The song debuted on Billboard's Hot 100 at number 31.
