«Nothing Else Matters» es una balada creada por la banda californiana de Heavy metal Metallica. Salió a la venta por primera vez en 1991 dentro del llamado Black album.
El cantante y guitarrista, James Hetfield, la escribió porque eran las últimas palabras de su abuelo antes de morir, quien fue como su padre. Esta canción también fue dedicada a Freddie Mercury, difunto vocalista de Queen, un grupo citado como una de las principales influencias de Metallica. Fue tocada en el Concierto en Tributo a Freddie Mercury, justo después de su lanzamiento como single.

James Hetfield dijo en una entrevista a Rolling Stone que la melodía de la canción fue inspirada en Tenement Funster de Queen

Su introducción es un arpegio en mi menor, que comienza con las cuerdas MI, SOL, SI, Y MI tocadas al aire. Se rumoreó y después confirmado por Hetfield (en el DVD Classic Albums: The Black Album) que había empezado a componerla mientras estaba hablando por teléfono con su novia, con lo que sólo le quedaba una mano libre. Este arpegio es muy fácil de tocar comparado con otros riffs de canciones de Metallica, y por consiguiente es uno de los primeros que muchos fans de Metallica aprenden al comprar su primera guitarra. Sin embargo, el resto de la canción es algo más complejo, por lo menos para un principiante. El solo de guitarra lo toca de forma excepcional el propio Hetfield, en lugar de Kirk Hammett.

Michael Kamen contribuyó en la orquestación sinfónica de la canción que pese a no ser muy notoria da una textura excepcional que resalta el sentimentalismo de Hetfield, desconocido hasta ese entonces.

En las versiones en vivo la estructura es diferente. Suele ser una de las últimas canciones interpetadas, con un solo de Kirk Hammett como introducción. Cuando comienza el primer verso, James queda solo con la guitarra tocando, y el resto de los miembros del grupo no aparece hasta después del estribillo. Además, al finalizar el solo la canción termina y se omite la parte final dando seguimiento la canción Enter Sandman también de su muy aclamado álbum ,Metallica.

"The Day That Never Comes" es la cuarta canción del disco Death Magnetic de la banda estadounidense de Thrash metal Metallica. También es su cuadragésimo single.

Esta canción es la balada de Death Magnetic; por su música y estructura recuerda a canciones anteriores como Fade to Black, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), One de los anteriores álbumes de la banda: Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All. Casualmente también son la cuarta pista de su respectivo album.

El vídeo musical para la canción fue filmado en el desierto de las afueras de Los Ángeles, California el 31 de julio de 2008, dirigida por el cineasta danés Thomas Vinterberg. Se estrenó en la página oficial de la banda en la medianoche del 1 de septiembre de 2008.

El 4 de agosto de 2008, en una entrevista a MTV, la banda dijo que la letra de la canción trata sobre el resentimiento y el perdón. El baterista de la banda, Lars Ulrich afirmó que la canción fue inspirada en una relación de Padre-Hijo. En esa misma entrevista James Hetfield define la letra como vaga y poderosa, que puede tener variadas interpretaciones.

ENGLISH COMMENT

"The Day That Never Comes" is the fourth song on the album Death Magnetic American band Metallica thrash metal. It is also forty single.

This song is the ballad of Death Magnetic, for his music and structure reminiscent of earlier songs like Fade to Black, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), One of the band's previous albums: Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ... And Justice for All. Coincidentally they are also the fourth track of their respective album.

The music video for the song was filmed in the desert outside Los Angeles, California on July 31, 2008, directed by Danish filmmaker Thomas Vinterberg. It premiered on the official website of the band at midnight on September 1, 2008.

On August 4, 2008, in an interview with MTV, the band said that the lyrics of the song is about the resentment and forgiveness. The band's drummer, Lars Ulrich said the song was inspired by a Father-Son relationship. In that same interview James Hetfield defines the letter as vague and powerful, which can have various interpretations.

The song debuted on Billboard's Hot 100 at number 31.
